Chak Dhoom Dhoom, A kid dance competition aired on Colors put me into thinking Are children looking for instant fame, popularity or is it their parents? Where is the innocence gone? At an age of 3 child wants a stardom. Can they even spell that big word! Is it the parents hunger for instant stardom and big mullah ?
Is Chak Dhoom Dhoom a competition for loosing innocence? Do we really want to see kids in loud gaudy makeup doing butt shakes , performing on bollywood item numbers, Practising hard.
Little minds waiting for their turn in jam-packed room with constant thought of performance and worry to win title. Why are we putting them through this? Is it a TRP trap? A stardom starved parents. Who go to any extent for instant fame.
Just curious. Is this change for good? Do we want to see TV channels victimize our little minds for TRP's. Will they ever be innocent and simple again? Haven’t they experienced success and failure too soon!!
Thank God we don't see kids right out of mother's womb competing for who's going to open eyes first.

Good point. You are right to a great extent. The pressure to perform on kids is immense these days. And these reality shows are not helping the cause in any way. Good that you brought this point out. But unfortunately we cant escape this reality. People want to be famous, be it at the expense of their kids childhood. Look at what happened to Michael Jackson, a child prodigy turned into a loner with complex psychological problems. Hope parents let kids be kids. Cheers! Kartik
ReplyDeleteVery thought-provoking piece written there! I remember thinking of something a few years ago while watching the 'popular' SaReGaMa Little Champs. Almost every season, there's a parent who picks up a fight with the judging panel just because their child got eliminated. Makes one wonder if this 'winning' spirit will really help those little souls in growing up or will it have an adverse effect on them when they realise that winning isn't always everything.

ReplyDeleteVery true vanita even every day when I see the ad of this program I really feel pity on these children. Children are such, what every you teach or inspire them they learn fast. Now a days we are looking, children are more interested to be a model. They behave and dress up like models.Simple living and high thinking phrase is gone- sunita Sharma

BTW - what kind of competition do you think kids coming out mom's womb can participate in? Maybe a singing competition? I'll talk to my producer about that!!

Todays competition is very hard. If we seen to children, they are so active. After the auction, the competition between them is very hard. All of them are amazing...

ReplyDeleteI am glad I am not raising my kids in India or else they would die of competition too. Americans have a very relaxed approach about kids. They dont even declare who came first in the class and so on...
